  • Because research shows that this is the age where gender stereotypes really start to impact girls' choices and affect their future careers. In the US, studies show that 8% of girls in this age group believe men are better leaders than women, but 46% of them believe certain jobs are better for men than women.

    At this age, girls are making important choices about academic subjects which can have a significant impact on their future. The well-researched drop in confidence at this age also means that they need to hear from people they identify with to see that they can achieve anything they want! We know meeting role models has a huge impact in this way - 70 percent of girls say they think differently about their futures after hearing from women role models.

    With that being said, YES - we do work with younger and older girls. Requests are handled on a case-by-case basis, but often granted as our activities and resources are suitable for mixed ages and groups. To make these decisions and uphold our values, we work with our partners and keep the welfare and best interests of the youth involved a top priority.

  • Of course it is very important that boys are aware of the impact of gender stereotypes too. Our core aim is to reach girls who may not have access to women role models in their lives, but we can decide with our partners to work with mixed groups if it is appropriate for them. When we do work with boys, it often has a significant impact on changing their perceptions about women in leadership and male-dominated roles.

  • No, we do not organize individual mentoring between girls and role models. Due to the age of the girls we work with, we only organize activities through schools, relevant youth organizations, or their parents/guardians.
